Homework

Children in Year 3 receive homework on a weekly basis.

We set homework which is usually an English, maths, topic or French piece.

Homework is given out on a Friday and is always collected in the following Thursday – Don’t forget!

Children are rewarded based on how many pieces of homework they complete!

Reading…

We expect children to be reading regularly and we ask that they read to an adult at least three times a week.

Children can earn reading points when their reading log is signed and can work towards their special ‘Read to Succeed’ awards.

Times Tables…

By the end of the year, our children should know their 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables although, by the end of Year 4, every child should know all of their times tables.

Every child has a log in for ‘Times tables rock stars’ which we encourage the children to use regularly at home. In school, they are given a small test three times a week to keep track of their progress.

Spellings…

Spelling words are given regularly for children to learn in any way they wish – they can make it as fun as they like.

We really encourage you to practise your spellings as often as you can to become super spellers!

Some strategies the children may be familiar with are:

  • rainbow spellings
  • pyramid spellings
  • look, cover, write, check
  • using chalk
  • finding words within other words
  • making word searches

Education City…

Every child has been given their own Education City log-in.

Children are free to use these games and activities whenever they wish to!
