Welcome to Galaxy Class. The class teacher is Miss Jansen and the Year 4 Teaching Assistant is Mrs Watkins.
We encourage the use of Class Dojo, which is checked daily, for non-urgent updates or queries.
As a school, we are using ‘White Rose Maths’. The scheme has a firm belief that number underpins almost every area of Mathematics.
In Year 4, we will cover place value, all four operations, measurement and time, fractions, decimals, money and shape.
At the end of Year 4, the children are required to undertake a multiplication check so there is a big focus on all the times tables.
In English, our teaching and learning is based on a range of fiction and non-fiction texts, including stories and poetry. Each lesson will incorporate an element of reading, grammar, spelling and writing.
Our topic lessons cover all our foundation subjects, such as History, Geography, Science, Art and DT. Our topic this term is Invasion with our companion projects being Interconnected World, Good food, fresh food, Digestion, Warp and weft.
Knowledge Organisers for these topics can be found below –
We also have weekly PSHE lessons using our Jigsaw scheme.
Our RE lessons are based around the Suffolk Agreed Syllabus.
Galaxy class will have PE on a Tuesday and Thursday.
In Year 4, the children will also have weekly swimming lessons. More information will be provided when it is our classes sessions.
We really encourage you to read daily with your child at home as this will greatly support their comprehension skills, reading fluency and increase the vocabulary.
At Great Heath, all home reading is celebrated and the children can earn themselves rewards. It would be great if you could sign your child’s log book every time they do read aloud to an adult or sibling for us to ensure this is counted towards the ‘Read to Succeed’ scheme.
Homework will be sent weekly and this will focus on multiplication and division. Each child has a ’10 minute workout’ book and will be set a weekly ‘workout’. Please return these to class the following Wednesday. There will also be a topic sheet with a range of activities, please choose one to complete over the half term.
